With every technology comes risk— even a technology as simple as the trendy new scooter. Last year, hospitals reported more than 33,000 scooter-related emergency room visits and two deaths, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. In fact, there are a surprising number of injuries associated with all sorts of household fixtures and everyday objects. These highlights from the 1999 injury list, issued by the CPSC, offer some perspective on risk.
