Magazine & Web Editorial Internship Program

Document Actions

DISCOVER, a general audience science magazine with a print readership of 6 million and a rapidly growing Web site, offers both print and Web internships. Interns receive a stipend, work full-time, and are vital members of the editorial team. All interns work from our friendly New York City office.

Magazine interns primarily research and fact-check articles but also have the opportunity to write news stories, book/movie reviews, and blog posts/online articles. Interns are further immersed in the inner workings of a magazine through staff meetings, lunches with editors, and writing/reporting workshops.

Our Web interns spend most of their time writing blog posts and working on feature stories and photo galleries for the site, along with some other production and administrative tasks. This is an excellent training ground for a Web-savvy journalist who wants to develop his/her news judgment and writing ability, and who wants to learn the workings of online journalism.

Deadline for applications for the winter (approximately January–May) internship is November 15; deadline for the summer (June–August) internship is March 15; and deadline for the fall (September–December) internship is July 15. Please send cover letter, resume, and clips.
