Knit Theory
Most likely you were introduced to a balloon model of the universe. How much stranger can a model of universe geometry become? According to some, we need to rethink universe geometry into a higher level of complexity that verges on unimaginable concepts.
Mind- (and Space-) Bending Geometries
What do you think of when you hear the word geometry? Squares, circles, and triangles, perhaps? If so, you are correct but a bit flat in your understanding. These common shapes are two-dimensional forms that are easily drawn on a sheet of paper. Geometry gets a bit more complex when we add another dimension. But instead of reading about these confounding concepts, let's experiment with them in a series of challenges.
Strange Shelf
Check out this loop. Notice how it forms a braceletlike shape. The shape is made from a single strip of ordinary paper. And as you can see, there's a single piece of tape that keeps this loop together. But notice the shelf that projects from the front of the loop. It's a part of that single piece of paper. Can you build this design?

Take a good look at this photograph of this loop. Then use a single strip of paper, scissors, and tape to construct this loop and its very odd shelf.
