Economic and cultural barriers initially kept many Americans off the Internet, but the latest UCLA Internet Report shows the situation has changed. Project director Jeff Cole says the online population is expanding far beyond wealthy white males. Hispanics, African Americans, women, and the elderly all make up an increasing share of Internet users. The Web also seems to be opening up to more people with low incomes and limited educations.
