A Shadow of Doubt
Chest X-rays of a woman with cervical cancer at first suggested that her cancer had progressed to the lungs. As additional tests were performed, however, it was discovered that nodules within the lung were not tumors. They were scars resulting from previous immune reactions to inhaled irritants.
